WELCOME
to the
NORWALK VETERANS MEMORIAL COMMITTEE

The Norwalk Veterans Memorial Committee (NVMC) is chartered by the City of Norwalk and charged with the responsibility of organizing and managing municipal events and activities that honor veterans, promote patriotism, and support troops on active duty all over the world.

The most notable of the major annual events that are sponsored by the city and organized by the committee are the Ceremony at the Shea-Magrath Memorial in May, the Memorial Day Parade, and the Veterans Day Ceremony.

In addition, the committee sponsors essay contests, presents scholarships, secures important books for school libraries, provides veterans as guest speakers in the schools, and supports the Junior ROTC detachments in both Norwalk high schools.

Funds for the NVMC are provided by the City of Norwalk and expenditure is monitored by the Director of Recreation and Parks. Committee membership comprises representatives of all local and active veterans service organizations (and their auxiliaries), JROTC detachments, and the City of Norwalk, plus the Police, Recreation and Parks, and Public Works Departments. Members-at-Large are veterans not associated with veterans service organizations.
